The Forest of Illway is a tiny pocket universe somewhere between Earth and other closely-related dimensions, mostly under the purview of an entity who takes the form of a curious, hyperactive grey tabby cat guy.
It's just a forest.
The trees are mostly oak and aspen, with a few sections of other growth. Peppered throughout are lakes and streams, paths and crossroads, hidden nooks and caves. You'll find the homes of the Forest's inhabitants: a small walled village, a tavern, an old church ruin from no known religion, a cottage perched on the side of a high ridge, a beautiful Roman-style garden, a distinct patch of evergreen pine forest, and more. In the distance, unreachable, is the cone of a tall, lonely mountain.
The Forest seems to loop back on itself, as there are no borders. Walk in any direction and you'll still find yourself somewhere familiar before long. The layout changes, making a true map impossible. Even the stars rearrange themselves in the sky in a slow, strange dance all night long.
Beings brought to the Forest stop aging, no longer need to eat, and are effectively immortal. Most of them physically change into forms that better suit their true nature. Chimeric beasts. Plantfolk. Monsters. Sometimes it happens slowly over time, sometimes all at once.
'Tis a weird place.
